Sanctuary: requirements and time by level

Sanctuary sets the hero level cap at five levels per Sanctuary level and adds hero stats on top. Almost every other building demands a Sanctuary no lower than itself, so the build queue always waits on the main hall, whose own upgrades also require specific buildings and Clinic stars: what every level needs and how long it takes is collected in the table below. The building is available from the start of the game and goes up to level 30. Only one can be built. Levels raise: hero Level Cap, hero HP, hero ATK, hero DEF.

Levels and cost

The table lists all 30 levels of the building, with the stat bonuses, Might and cost of every step. Cost grows faster than the payoff: the last five levels take 79% of the total build time.

Full upgrade

Taking the building from level 1 to 30 costs Grain 5,031,344,982, Timber 5,031,344,982, Herb 1,602,346,400. Pure build time without speed-ups: 398d 20h, that is, more than a year.

What every level requires

Resources are not the only condition: before every upgrade the Sanctuary also checks buildings and clinic stars, and both are earned long before construction starts. The table lists the requirements of every level together with the pure build time without speed-ups. The Research Lab first enters the list at level eleven, and from level twelve it sits one level below the target, so a Sanctuary of level 24 waits on a lab of level 23. The clinic star requirement is noticed less often. It appears as early as level three and then climbs at almost every step, so the build queue sometimes stalls on an unfinished clinic rather than on missing resources. Hence the working order: the clinic is kept up from the first days alongside gathering, and the lab stays right behind the Sanctuary, otherwise both conditions meet at one level and the queue stops for a long time.

How to use it

A full Sanctuary upgrade takes 398 days 20 hours of pure build time, matching the Walls and exceeding every other building in the city. That time is spread unevenly: the first twenty-five levels fit into 82 days, while the last five take 316. Up to level 25 the Sanctuary rarely holds the queue, and after that it remains the only long construction left. Its neighbors at level 1 are shorter: a Farm takes 49 days 20 hours, the Temple seconds.

The Might of a thirtieth-level Sanctuary reaches 384,300, more than any other building carries: the Walls give 313,300 and the Watchtower 311,100. The bill comes to 5,031,344,982 Grain, the same amount of Timber and 1,602,346,400 Herb, with 1,356,000,000 Grain of that in the last level alone.

Might, however, is not why the main hall is raised. Every level from the sixth lifts the hero cap by five, from 5 at the first level to 150 at the thirtieth, and adds stats to the whole roster: HP from 1,600 to 50,500, ATK and DEF from 25 to 723. No other building strengthens every hero at once.

Hence the working order: the Research Lab stays one level below the target, and Clinic stars are gathered in advance, from 17 at level 3 to 326 at level 28. Everything else that waits on the main hall is collected on the Sanctuary page.
