The Clinic: how it works, progress and doctor

Contents

The Clinic looks like a side minigame, yet its progress sets the pace for the whole territory: Sanctuary levels require clinic stars, up to a complete clearing of the clinic at level twenty-nine. Inside, it runs an economy of its own built from rooms, patients and a doctor, and it pays outward in stars and bonuses, some of which apply in battle.

How it works

The clinic is made of over fifty rooms of several kinds, from wards and infirmaries to herbal baths, tatami, nurses and a cook. There are 53 of them, but only 27 earn anything, each with ten upgrade levels, and the rest are service and decorative rooms. Patients pay for their stay while the doctor walks the floor and heals.

The best room shows the economics. From level 1 to level 10 its income grows from 19.5 to 278, the stay fee from 2 to 28, and capacity from 24 seats to 60. Income grows faster than the fee, so room levels pay off through throughput rather than price.

Progress

Progress is measured in stars, 326 of them in total. Star rewards come in three qualities and give both local and combat bonuses. The local ones speed up the clinic itself, raising income, patient donations, the doctor's movement and healing speed and the healing radius.

Upgrading the doctor

The doctor has a single sixteen-step upgrade line with a fixed order, and there is no choosing what to raise first. The steps cycle through movement speed, healing speed, healing radius and carry limit. The table shows what one step adds and what has accumulated by the last of them.

WhatPer stepAt step sixteen
Movement speed+5%+20%
Healing speed+5%+20%
Healing radius+5%+20%
Carry limit+1 (first step gives +3)+6

Cost climbs steeply, from 10 for step one to 40 for step four and 1,920 for step sixteen, so the early steps buy far more per coin than the late ones.

Worth knowing early

The clinic is worth playing from day one rather than leaving it for later. Stars accumulate slowly, and without them construction eventually stops.

About heroes

Almost every hero's description says they become available after treatment in the clinic. That is flavor text rather than a mechanic: no patient turns into a hero, and the actual ways to get heroes are on Where to get heroes.
