One research branch costs no grain, wood or herbs. That sounds like a gift, but it has its own currency: training scrolls, and only the Alliance Duel event awards them.
Why it matters
A node in that branch gates the elite troop category. And inside that category sits the node that unlocks the tenth soldier tier. Without taking part in the alliance event the top tier is unreachable, no matter how many resources you pile up.
Worth knowing in advance: solo play hits a technology ceiling not for lack of money but for lack of scrolls.
A common mistake
Guides say the tenth tier needs the whole elite branch maxed. It needs one specific node, and maxing the branch costs about twice what access requires.
What this means when picking an alliance
The event requires a reasonably large alliance and a decent rank by power. A small alliance gives no scrolls, and therefore closes part of the tech tree and the top troop tier. Picking an alliance is an access condition, not just company.
