← Alliance Duel: payout, branch and mistakes

**The Alliance Duel** is a weekly competition between alliances, and a whole research branch depends on it. That branch costs no grain, wood or herbs, which sounds like a gift until its own currency turns up: Study Scrolls, handed out for competition alone. Alliance league ranks pay the most, then come arena season rewards, growth goals and alliance competition stages. Access to the upper technologies therefore rests on taking part in events rather than on stockpiles.

## Why it matters

One node in that branch opens the elite troop category, and inside the category sits the node for the tenth soldier tier. Without taking part in the alliance event the top tier stays out of reach entirely, however large the pile of resources in the city.

Knowing that early helps, because solo play runs into a technology limit for lack of scrolls rather than for lack of money.

## What the event itself pays

The Alliance Duel has two score rewards: a daily one at 180,000 alliance points and a weekly one at 550,000. The part worth singling out is that **a losing alliance still gets scrolls**, 420 of them for a weekly loss against 840 for a win, which is half.

Two branches run on scrolls rather than one. Alliance Duel costs 54,110 scrolls and Caravan Transport 81,950, together 136,060, and neither takes grain, timber or herbs.

For scale, those sums are worth holding against a single week of play. The Duel branch costs 54,110 scrolls, and an alliance that simply plays the week out and loses still covers about a hundred and twenty-eighth of it, a winning one twice that, so the branch fills up over months.

## What the branch holds

Fourteen nodes sit in the branch, and almost all of them multiply event points rather than give stats. The full table with prices is on the [[event-points|event points]] page; what matters here is the order of purchases. Super Rewards and Best Rewards come first, at 100 and 450 scrolls, because the top reward tiers do not open without them and everything else in the branch costs thousands. Arena Expert follows: 3,800 scrolls to double every point source is the best rate in the branch.

## A common mistake

Guides sometimes say the tenth tier needs the whole elite branch maxed. It needs one specific node, and maxing the branch costs about twice what access requires.

## What this means when picking an alliance

The event asks for a reasonably large alliance and a decent rank by Might. A small alliance yields no scrolls, and with them closes off part of the tech tree and the top troop tier. Picking an alliance decides what content is reachable, not only who the company is.
