← Curios: upgrading, cost and repeated bonuses
**Curios** are artifacts placed in the city that grant permanent bonuses, always active and never
switched off. There are 31 of them, one copy of each, and a placed Curio cannot be demolished.
They are bought with shards, and the difference between rarities sits less in the purchase price
than in what upgrading costs afterwards. Half the set repeats bonuses its neighbours already give,
so the effect line is what to pick by.
## Upgrading
A Curio is bought for universal shards and upgraded with its own. It has seven levels (five in one
case), with stars running inside each level.
Stars work differently from hero stars: they fill the current level rather than forming a system of
their own. The third star of a level equals the zero star of the next one, and the bonus grows
evenly in between. Only SSR and UR carry stars, SR has none at all.
## What it costs
Purchase price and upgrade cost behave differently, and the table gives both.
| Rarity | Purchase | Shards to max |
|---|---|---|
| SR | 20 | 15,624 |
| SSR | 70 | 728 |
| UR | 140 | 728 |
SR is three and a half times cheaper than SSR and seven times cheaper than UR to buy, yet it needs
twenty times more shards to upgrade, which makes it the weakest of the three to invest in.
One UR Curio is an exception: the Beacon of the Age has only five levels and 80 shards to the cap.
## What they give
The bonuses are flat and permanent. At maximum the Warrior Seal gives +612,000 hero HP, the Sphinx
gives +6,629 ATK and +5% crit damage, and the Twin Dragon Brooch gives +55% construction speed.
## Half of them are copies
Curios that look different often give the exact same number: five of them give +108,800 HP, three
give +1,600 ATK, and three more give +6,629 ATK with +5% crit damage. The artwork says nothing about
the value, the bonus line says all of it.
Only five are unique in effect type: construction speed, covert operations queue, damage to monsters,
hero damage dealt and command.
